How We Serve
Creating and Supporting Lasting Tributes
In 2022, we commissioned and dedicated the SGT Alfred B. Hilton Memorial at David Craig Park in Havre de Grace. This powerful tribute, overlooking the Susquehanna River, commemorates Hilton’s sacrifice at the Battle of New Market Heights, Chaffin’s Farm in Virginia, in 1864.
Restoring and Preserving U.S.C.T. Burials in Harford County
• We have identified 305 U.S.C.T. soldiers with ties to Harford County, documenting service records and personal data. This research—made possible by a grant from the Dresher Foundation—has been shared with the Historical Society of Harford County and made available online.
• To date, 49 USCT troop burial sites have been identified within the county. We visited each site, assessed headstone and cemetery conditions, and placed a marker to honor their legacy. We authored biographies of each soldier.
• Upcoming efforts include cleaning, repairing, or replacing damaged headstones, and providing a permanent historical plaque in each cemetery to ensure these heroes are properly remembered.
Public Recognition and Education
• We host annual educational events focused on SGT Hilton, the U.S.C.T., and their contributions to Civil War history. • The Foundation has to date awarded 12 scholarships totaling $12,000 to Harford Community College students. We will continue to fund four $1,000 scholarships per year, with plans to increase this support. • The 2026 launch of an annual county-wide Art/Essay contest for Elementary/Middle/High School students.
• Our YouTube channel will feature videos highlighting SGT Alfred B. Hilton and the stories and burial sites of Harford County’s U.S.C.T. veterans. We author educational articles and produce flyers and displays. Plans are also underway for a Book to honor all U.S.C.T. veterans with ties to Harford County.
